STH to attend 8th APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting

     The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, will depart for Tokyo, Japan tomorrow (September 4) to attend the 8th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Transportation Ministerial Meeting.

     Transportation ministers and senior officials from the 21 APEC economies will discuss a wide range of issues with a focus on enhancing connectivity by high-quality transportation in the region.

     Professor Cheung will give a presentation on Hong Kong's experience in promoting the international flow of people and goods at the panel meeting on strengthening connectivity, and will introduce Hong Kong's convenient, efficient and green transportation system at the panel meeting on pursuing quality transport.

     Following the conclusion of the Transportation Ministerial Meeting, he will meet officials from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to find out more about their cycling policy.

     During his stay in Tokyo, he will speak at the Japan-Hong Kong Logistics Cooperation Symposium, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, to promote Hong Kong's advantages as an international trade and logistics hub among prominent industry players from both places. He will also meet the Hong Kong community in Japan to learn more about their lives there.

     Professor Cheung will return to Hong Kong on Friday evening.
