The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Film Development Council:

The Hong Kong Films Exhibition 2013 will be launched in Guangzhou today (August 19) with the premiere of the film "The Way We Dance" financed by the Film Development Fund (FDF). The event marks a further step in the implementation of facilitative measures for the audiovisual (film) sector under the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA).

"The Way We Dance" has been well received since its debut screening. Directed by new director Mr Adam Wong, the film portrays a group of youngsters pursuing their dream of hip-hop dance. The estimated production budget for the film was $5.3 million and the amount financed by the FDF was $2.12 million.

The Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Film Development Council, Mr Wellington Fung, will attend the film premiere event in Guangzhou today. He said, "'The Way We Dance' is one of the first Cantonese Hong Kong films to benefit from the CEPA facilitative measures. Hong Kong films censored by the Radio, Film and TV Administration of Guangdong Province to take part in film festivals in Guangdong will enjoy a shorter processing time in future applications for commercial release in the province, with a view to achieving synchronised distribution in Hong Kong.

"The synchronised distribution arrangement enables audiences in Hong Kong and the Mainland to enjoy Hong Kong films simultaneously. This is conducive to expanding the Guangdong market for Cantonese Hong Kong films."

The Hong Kong Films Exhibition 2013 is being held in Guangzhou from today to August 25 to promote the Cantonese versions of Hong Kong films.

The film exhibition features the original Cantonese versions of five Hong Kong films, including the gala film "The Way We Dance", "Bends", "A Complicated Story", "Doomsday Party" and "A Secret Between Us". They are being screened in six theatres under the three cinema circuits of China Film Southern Movie New-Lines Co Ltd, Guangzhou Jinyizhujiang Movie Circuit Co Ltd and Dadi Digital Cinemas Co Ltd.

The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong, Mr Alan Chu, and representatives of the five Hong Kong films will also attend the opening ceremony of the film exhibition today.
