The Director of Immigration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, and the Commissioner of Korea Immigration Service, Mr Jeong Dong-min, today (July 30) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning the use of automated clearance service on a mutual basis, marking a new milestone in the co-operation between Hong Kong and the Republic of Korea in immigration matters.

"This is the first MOU that Hong Kong has signed on the use of automated clearance service on a mutual basis with a foreign country. We are delighted to have the Republic of Korea as our first co-operation partner on this aspect. We believe that the implementation of mutual use of automated clearance service would allow for greater travel convenience for holders of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport and the Republic of Korea passport, and would enhance trade, business and tourism links between Hong Kong and the Republic of Korea," an Immigration Department spokesman said.

"The relevant service is expected to be rolled out by end of this year. Implementation details will be announced later," the spokesman added.
