The Government today (July 19) announced the re-appointment of 16 incumbent members and appointment of a new member to the Elderly Commission. The appointments will take effect on July 30.
The 16 incumbent members who have been re-appointed are Professor Alfred Chan Cheung-ming (Chairman), Dr Lam Ching-choi (Vice-Chairman), Dr Felix Chan Hon-wai, Mrs Lilian Chan Lui Ling-yee, Ms Maggie Chan Man-ki, Dr Eric Cheng Kam-chung, Dr Cheung Moon-wah, Dr Alice Chong Ming-lin, Professor Sylvia Fung Yuk-kuen, Mr Patrick Ma Ching-hang, Mr Timothy Ma Kam-wah, Mr Henry Shie Wai-hung, Dr Tung Sau-ying, Mr Jackson Wong Fan-foung, Mrs Doris Wong Wong Yu-sum and Mr Stephen Yau How-boa.
Professor Sylvia Fung Yuk-kuen has been re-appointed for a term of one year and eight months whereas the other 15 members have been re-appointed for a term of two years.
The new member, Miss Grace Chan Man-yee, is the Chief Officer (Elderly Service) of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. She has been appointed for a term of two years.
The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the appointments.
"Given the rapidly ageing population, the Elderly Commission plays an increasingly important role in advising the Government on the policies and measures relating to the well-being of our senior citizens.
"I count on the wise counsel and support of the Commission in formulating a comprehensive policy for our elderly," he said.
Mr Cheung also thanked the outgoing member, Mr Marco Wu Moon-hoi, for his sterling contribution to the Commission.
The Elderly Commission was established in 1997 with its members drawn from the health-care, social welfare, elderly service, professional and academic sectors.
