Hong Kong Heritage Museum to screen documentary "The Brilliant Life of Bruce Lee" from July 21 (with photos)
*******************************************************

To mark the 40th anniversary of the death of the internationally renowned martial arts movie star Bruce Lee, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum will launch a large-scale exhibition, "Bruce Lee: Kung Fu•Art•Life", which will open to the public on Saturday (July 20) and will run for five years. The spokesman for the Hong Kong Heritage Museum noted that more than 600 memorabilia items related to Lee along with a documentary will be featured at the exhibition to enable visitors to obtain a thorough understanding of this legendary figure.

The spokesman said, "Entitled 'The Brilliant Life of Bruce Lee', the documentary was produced by the Federation of the Hong Kong Filmmakers in 2009. To tie in with the exhibition, the documentary was edited from a two-hour original into a 75-minute abridged version which will be screened at the theatre of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum starting on Sunday (July 21).

"Rich in content and painstakingly produced, the documentary features many precious film clips and interviews with people closely associated with Lee, giving audiences an overview of Bruce Lee's short yet fruitful life."

The director of the documentary, Takkie Yeung, noted that the documentary contains valuable footage of Lee including film clips of TV series and movies produced in Hong Kong and the US during his childhood and adulthood, and clips from his family's home videos as well. The documentary also features video clips on Lee's practice sessions at his backyard and a kung fu demonstration at the Long Beach International Karate Championship in California, where he impressed the audience so much that he was then invited by 20th Century Fox to play the role of Kato in the US TV series "The Green Hornet".

Yeung said the film crew had travelled to many places to interview more than 70 people including Lee's family members, filming partners and friends as well as martial arts practitioners. Audiences will be able to see in the documentary his wife Linda, his childhood friend director Lung Kong, film producer Raymond Chow and movie stars Nora Miao, Sek Kin and Lam Kau, among many others.

"The Brilliant Life of Bruce Lee" will be screened at the theatre of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum from July 21 onwards. Holders of the museum's admission tickets will be given free entry. The documentary will be screened at 10.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 4.30pm on weekdays and at 10.30am, 12.15pm, 2pm, 3.45pm and 5.30pm on Sundays and public holidays. The documentary will not be put on show on Saturdays, when the theatre of the museum is reserved for Cantonese opera performances. Those who have purchased admission tickets for Saturdays will be entitled to view the documentary on any other day with their purchased tickets. In addition, four short films edited from the documentary will be featured in the exhibition gallery.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and jointly organised by the Bruce Lee Foundation and the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the "Bruce Lee: Kung Fu•Art•Life" exhibition is one of the highlight programmes of "Vibrant Hong Kong" under the territory-wide "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.

During the early stage of the exhibition, the museum will arrange viewing sessions and online reservation of tickets for the first two months (from mid-July to mid-September) after the exhibition opens. Visitors can, via email, reserve tickets for a time slot that fits their schedule through the Hong Kong Heritage Museum's online reservation website at blor.lcsd.gov.hk. Visitors will also be able to reserve or purchase tickets at the museum.

Online reservation is being conducted in two phases:

* Phase 1: From 10am on July 4 onwards (for exhibition dates from July 20 to August 19)

Interested parties will only be allowed to make reservations for a maximum of three viewing sessions and four tickets for each session during each phase of online reservation while the quota lasts. The quota will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

As the exhibition is classified as a permanent exhibition of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, visitors will only need to pay the museum's standard admission fees for visiting the exhibition without additional charges. However, visitors will be required to present the special admission slip for viewing the exhibition. Standard admission to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum is $10 with a half-price concession available for full-time students, people with disabilities and senior citizens aged 60 or above. Group tickets at $7 each are available to groups of 20 persons or more. Admission is free on Wednesdays.

It is closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays). Paid car parking is available at the museum.
