Fatal traffic accident in Tsing Yi

     Police are investigating a traffic accident in Tsing Yi this afternoon (July 14) in which a 10-year-old boy died.

     About 3.30pm, a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 45-year-old man was travelling on Texaco Road towards Tsing Yi. When approaching 150 Texaco Road, the LGV reportedly collided with a private car which was driven by a 36-year-old man traveling towards Tsuen Wan. The LGV then hit a traffic sign, a lamppost and sideturned.

     After the impact, a 10-year-old male LGV passenger sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital in unconscious state. He was later transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital where he was certified dead at 5.54pm.

     The LGV driver, two male and two female LGV passengers, aged between four and 45, also sustained injuries and were taken to Yan Chai Hospital for treatment.

     The 36-year-old private car driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South are under way.
