Fatal traffic accident in Lantau North

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Lantau North this afternoon (July 1) in which a 47-year-old man was killed.

     At about 1pm, a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 35-year-old man was travelling along North Lantau Highway towards Tung Chung. When approaching near Siu Ho Wan, the LGV reportedly cut the lane and hit a medium goods vehicle (MGV) driven by a 53-year-old man. Then a bus driven by the 47-year-old man behind the MGV also rammed onto the MGV.

     Sustaining serious injuries on his legs, the bus driver was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 4.47pm.

     The other two drivers, together with a LGV female passenger and 34 bus passengers including 11 males and 23 females aged from one to 72, also sustained injuries and were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital, Yan Chai Hospital, Caritas Medical Centre and Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment respectively.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South, are under way.
