Japanese houseware company Talk Co Ltd announced today (June 10) that it has opened its first overseas showroom in Hong Kong, leveraging on the city's international network to extend its trade throughout Asia.
Talk's business has been based around the importation of various luxury housewares and interior decoration brands into Japan. With the opening of the office in Hong Kong, the company plans to export Japanese-made housewares and gifts overseas, initially to regional and Mainland markets. The Hong Kong office will eventually become Talk's headquarters and the company will continue to source quality brands from Hong Kong for distribution in Japan as well as European countries.
The Director of Talk Hong Kong Co Ltd, Mr Norio Kajiwara, said, "Hong Kong is an international business hub and has excellent marketing networks. We believe that our Hong Kong presence can help us make our portfolio brands better known to the rest of the world, including Mainland China."
He added, "Hong Kong's free trade environment and low tax regime also make it an ideal place from which we can expand our business globally. There are many exhibitions and trade fairs for us to test our brand acceptance in various overseas markets."
As part of its corporate responsibility commitment, the company will donate one percent of its revenue to support local charity organisations that provide education to deprived children.
The Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Andrew Davis, welcomed the opening of Talk in Hong Kong and said, "Throughout Hong Kong's history, the city has been a crucial trading hub, with strong marketing and infrastructure connections with Mainland China and major Asian markets. Our low tax regime also offers a good platform for companies like Talk to embark on their international expansion path."
