The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London (London ETO), promoted Hong Kong films in London by sponsoring the Hong Kong Focus at the Terracotta Far East Film Festival in London, which opened on June 6 (London time) with the United Kingdom (UK) premiere of the movie "Cold War". Directed by Sunny Luk and Longman Leung, this crime thriller has won nine awards at the 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Screenplay.

The Hong Kong Focus, which lasts from June 6 to 9, also features UK premieres of three other Hong Kong films: "Drug War" by Johnnie To; "The Bullet Vanishes" by Lo Chi-leung; and "Love Me Not" by Gilitte Leung, who attended the festival and participated in a masterclass and answered audience's questions after the screening of her film on June 7. The festival also paid tribute to Hong Kong acting icons Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui, who passed away ten years ago, with special screenings of three movies they starred in: "Rouge", "Happy Together" and "Days of Being Wild".

Speaking at the opening screening of the festival, the Director-General of the London ETO, Ms Erica Ng, said, "'Cold War' is an example of what makes Hong Kong cinema special. For decades, Hong Kong had the third largest motion picture industry in the world, and its recent revival builds on that fantastic legacy. The industry produced legendary and globally popular martial arts icons like Mr Bruce Lee, Mr Jackie Chan and Mr Donnie Yen."

Mentioning the international success of Hong Kong films such as "A Simple Life" and "Infernal Affairs" as well as outstanding Hong Kong directors, Ms Ng said, "This is a vivid and successful representation of Hong Kong's talent, creativity and unique fusion of Eastern and Western cultures."

Last year, the London ETO held the Hong Kong 15 Film Festival in London to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
