***********************************************************

The Yokohama Dragon Boat Races today (June 2) drew big crowds at Yamashita Park in Yokohama, Japan.

The dragon boat races, held since 1994, this year attracted a total of 184 teams to compete in the four-day event spread across two consecutive weekends.

One of the highlights of the races today was the Hong Kong Cup Dragon Boat Race sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo (HKETO) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

After beating 17 teams in the race, Tokyo Dragon was presented with a trophy by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Mrs Laura Aron.

Alongside the races, the HKETO also set up a booth and display panels to introduce to park visitors Hong Kong's advantages under the "One Country, Two Systems" principle. Promotional leaflets were also distributed to enable visitors to learn more about the latest developments in Hong Kong, Asia's world city.

The HKETO, established in 1988, aims to promote closer economic and trade ties, tourism and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Japan as well as enhance Japanese people's knowledge and understanding of Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Cup Dragon Boat Race held today was one of the events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKETO.
