The Transport Department (TD) today (May 30) reminded the public that a trial on the temporary traffic and transport arrangements to facilitate tram track renewal work will be implemented in Central from 10am this Saturday (June 1) to 6am next Monday (June 3).
The temporary traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:
(1) Temporary traffic arrangements
The following road sections will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic except trams:
i) The section of fast lane of Des Voeux Road Central eastbound from its junction with Queen Victoria Street to a point about 30 metres west of the same junction;
ii) The section of fast lane of Des Voeux Road Central westbound from its junction with Queen Victoria Street to a point about 25m east of the same junction; and
iii) The section of right lane of Queen Victoria Street southbound from its junction with Des Voeux Road Central to a point about 20m north of the same junction.
(2) Temporary transport arrangements
The bus stop on Des Voeux Road Central eastbound outside Hang Seng Bank Headquarters will be temporarily relocated westward by about 125m.
Appropriate traffic signs and road markings will be erected on-site to guide motorists.
Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected area are advised to use public transport as far as possible.
The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. The public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
