In response to media enquiries on the statement issued by the Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS) and a group of students from Caritas Institute of Higher Education on the protest on May 16, which mentioned that the Chief Executive did not receive petition letter, the spokesman of the Chief Executive's Office today (May 17) responded as follows:
The Chief Executive is willing to receive petition letters under safe conditions and where situations permit and do not affect others. He had also received petition letter submitted by students while attending an activity in the City University of Hong Kong on May 6.
However, confusions emerged when the activity held yesterday (May 16) was disrupted by the protesters of the HKFS and League of Social Democrats. There occurred situations in which the safety of participants might be jeopardised and the organiser of the activity had to seek Police's assistance. As a result, the Chief Executive was not able to receive petition letter from the protesters.
