Grants approved for Mainland earthquake victims

     The Government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved five grants from the Disaster Relief Fund totalling $21.718 million to five relief agencies to undertake relief projects for earthquake victims in  Sichuan Province on the Mainland.

     Announcing the grants today (May 3), a government spokesman said that the Committee hoped the five grants, comprising one of $2.064 million to Oxfam Hong Kong; one of $3.5 million to Save the Children Hong Kong; one of $4.67 million to World Vision Hong Kong; one of $5.304 million to Amity Foundation, Hong Kong and one of $6.18 million to the Salvation Army would help provide relief to earthquake victims in the province.

     "To ensure that the money will be used for the designated purposes, the five relief agencies have been asked to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts on the use of the grants after the relief projects have been completed," the spokesman said.

     Chaired by the Chief Secretary for Administration, the Committee comprises eight members including two ex-officio members from the Administration.
