Two of Hong Kong's most popular singers - Jacky Cheung and Eason Chan - have today (April 30) released a new song in support of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.

The song, entitled "Sail On" is a modern take on an old classic - "Below the Lion Rock" - and will be the official Campaign theme song.

The new score has been composed by Eric Kwok with lyrics by Abrahim Chan.

The new song adopts a sampling approach that entails using part of the signature melody from the original song and combining it with new music and lyrics.

The original song is closely associated with the Hong Kong spirit of perseverance, mutual help and care while the new twist symbolises the way in which Hong Kong continues to move forward, innovate and grow without losing sight of its core values.

Said Jacky: "From watching episode after episode of the 'Below the Lion Rock' TV series and listening to the song, until today, these have became representations of Hong Kong, like icons.

"When we were singing (the new song), you could feel a sense of encouragement. Being a Hong Konger, there are still things worth treasuring.

"Born here, raised in Hong Kong, study here, work here, everything is here. Good elements ... there is only one - the Hong Kong people. I believe Hong Kong will definitely do well."

Eason said the lyrics brought out the feeling that everyone in Hong Kong is in the same boat, "praising and encouraging each other, helping each other ... something that every place should have".

On singing with Jacky, Eason said, "They always say there should be successors going to work together. This time it is really about working together. This feeling was wonderful."

Eason said the new song also brought back many memories for him: "In the '80s, when I was in primary school, there were still some mobile pull-cart stalls and they had to run (when the inspectors arrived). Star Ferry Pier ... the Peak ... After listening to the song you feel very encouraged ... the blood is hot."

The "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign was launched by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, on April 23, 2013. It will run until the end of the year.

The city-wide public participation campaign aims to inject positive energy into society, foster social cohesion and promote care, mutual help and solidarity in the community.

It provides a platform for enhanced publicity of events and activities that engage a wide cross-section of the community and showcase Hong Kong as a liveable and enjoyable city, thus instilling among residents a sense of pride about our home and a stronger sense of belonging.

The Campaign emphasises "public participation". The Government's role is mainly to provide a common platform that allows activities and events aligned with the campaign goals to be pooled under an umbrella theme to create greater synergy and public awareness.

Details of the Campaign can be found on the website www.hkourhome.gov.hk.
