SLW on container terminal labour dispute

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on the container terminal labour dispute today (April 21):

Reporter: ......

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: We are playing the role of an entirely impartial conciliator. It is important for us to keep this neutrality in order to gain the trust of various parties concerned. So we are not in the position to comment on what's happening, but suffice for me to say that we appeal once again for all sides to get back to the negotiating table. It is only through rational dialogue and sincere exchange that we can actually arrive at a consensus and really break the deadlock.
