The spokesperson for Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) made the following announcement today (April 18):
Four patients (aged 48 to 60) in a female ward for the severely intellectual disabled had presented with respiratory symptoms since April 13. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive to Influenza A (Human Swine Influenza). Three of the patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition, while one 56-year-old patient succumbed yesterday (April 17) due to her underlying chronic disease.
Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
