LegCo Panel on Environmental Affairs begins its duty visit in Korea (with photos)

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Environmental Affairs began its duty visit in Seoul,Korea today (April 2) to study the experience of Seoul on waste management.

     The delegation met with members of the Environment and Water Resources Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council which is responsible for environmental preservation and recovery activities, including waste management. Views were exchanged on the challenges of implementing waste management policies and waste treatment facilities.

     In the afternoon, the delegation met with two non-governmental green groups--the Korea Zero Waste Movement Network and the Greenpeace East Asia to better understand the waste management policies implemented in Korea from the community's perspective, and the experience in changing the waste management culture of the public.

     The delegation attended a dinner hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Tokyo in the evening.

      Members of the delegation will visit the Songpa Recycling Centre and the Mapo Waste Incinerator and will also observe the operation of the volume based waste fee system and food waste recycling operation tomorrow (April 3).
