The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited the headquarters of the Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) this afternoon (March 25).

Mrs Lam started her visit by meeting the Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Mr Clement Cheung, and other senior officials of the C&ED, and receiving their briefing on the Department's major work areas. She then proceeded to the Syndicate Crimes Investigation Bureau, which was formed this year to enhance the Department's capability in tackling syndicate crimes and tracing the proceeds of crime. Lastly, she paid a visit to the recently established Electronic Crime Investigation Centre and learned about how the Centre is coping with the increasing number of dubious Internet transactions and technological crimes.

During the visit, Mrs Lam met with representatives of C&ED staff associations and chatted with frontline staff of the Department. She praised the Department highly for its efforts and effectiveness in tackling smuggling and narcotics trafficking, collecting revenue on dutiable goods and protecting intellectual property rights and consumer interests, and encouraged the staff to continue to provide quality services.
