Update on cluster of Influenza A cases at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients in a male psychiatric ward infected with Influenza A (H1), the spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital made the following update today (March 20):

     Two more patients (aged 57 and 62) in the ward concerned presented with fever symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged and the test results were confirmed positive for Influenza A (H1). The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

     Admission and visiting to the ward concerned have been suspended. Restricted discharge from the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients and staff members in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
