SLW's remarks after Social Security and Retirement Protection Task Force meeting (with photo/video)
***************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, in a joint stand-up media session with the Chief Secretary for Administration and Chairman of the Commission on Poverty, Mrs Carrie Lam, after the meeting of the Social Security and Retirement Protection Task Force of the Commission on Poverty today (March 18):

Reporter: Would you say the government is dragging its feet on the study of universal retirement protection?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: There is no question of the government dragging our feet at all. In fact, we made a very important decision today of commissioning Professor Nelson Chow to undertake a study on the future direction of retirement protection in Hong Kong. He will, first of all, examine the viability, sustainability of the current three pillars system here, and also to take account of all the views, opinions expressed in the community by various groups and concern groups. So it is a holistic approach. He will come up with an impartial, objective and scientifically based opinion for the Commission on Poverty to consider the way forward.
