Update on cluster of Influenza A cases at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients in a male psychiatric ward infected with Influenza A, a spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following update today (March 18):

     One more 62-year-old patient in the male psychiatric ward had fever symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged and the test result of the patient was positive for Influenza A. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.

     Admission and visiting to the ward concerned have been suspended. Restricted discharge from the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients and staff members in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
