New section of Ho Pui Section Mountain Bike Trail in Tai Lam Country Park opens to public (with photos)
************************************************************

A new section of the Ho Pui Section Mountain Bike Trail in Tai Lam Country Park will open to cycling enthusiasts from tomorrow (March 17).

The new section is 1.4 kilometres long and is located near the entrance of Tai Lam Country Park at Tsuen Kam Au. With the assistance of trail building experts from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA), this new section has been designed and built in accordance with the principles of sustainable trails promoted by the IMBA and is suitable for experienced mountain bikers. A number of challenging features are provided such as small drop-offs and a gravel-covered stretch to make it more enjoyable for advanced bikers. The new section connects to the existing Ho Pui Section Mountain Bike Trail and is separated from the hikers' trail so as to minimise the chance of accidental collision between bikers and hikers.

Volunteers from various mountain bike groups participated in three volunteer trail-building days organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) last December. Under the guidance of experts from the IMBA, the volunteers helped build part of the new trail together with AFCD staff.

Details of mountain biking trails in country parks are available at AFCD's website: www.afcd.gov.hk/english/country/cou_vis/cou_vis_mou/cou_vis_mou.html .

Those interested in cycling on the new trail section and other designated mountain bike trails in country parks should apply in advance for a cycling permit. Application forms are available on the AFCD's website. Permits are free of charge. Cyclists should observe the code of practice for mountain biking in country parks and ensure their own safety as well as the safety of other country park users.
