Winners of Hong Kong Flower Show plant exhibit competition announced (with photos)

     The winners of the Hong Kong Flower Show 2013 Plant Exhibit Competition were announced today (March 16).

     At the prize presentation ceremony today, two 2013 Hong Kong Flower Show Cups were awarded to the best exhibits in the Open Competition Section and the School Section. Ms Ip Lai-fan won in the Open Competition Section with her exquisite cattleya, while students from Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Li Ka Shing College won in the School Section with three pots of colourful foliage plants.

     The winner of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) Western Style Garden Plot Competition was Kwun Tong District while the winner of the LCSD Oriental Style Garden Plot Competition was Sham Shui Po District.

     The plant exhibit competition attracted more than 2 100 entries and was one of the most popular activities of the Hong Kong Flower Show. The overall standard of entries in the various categories of the competition was outstanding.

     Organised by the LCSD, the Hong Kong Flower Show is being held at Victoria Park from now until March 24 from 9am to 9pm.

     The show's theme flower is the dendrobium and its theme is "Kaleidoscope of Spring". More than 350 000 flowering plants, among which are about 10 000 dendrobiums of some 10 cultivars, are on display.

     The event has attracted over 200 organisations from 18 countries to take part in showcasing exquisite potted plants, beautiful floral arrangements and gorgeous landscape displays, transforming Victoria Park into a colourful wonderland.

     A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities has also been organised for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages. They include music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, plant maintenance workshops, green stalls, guided visits, recreation programmes and fun games.

     Admission tickets are being sold at the entrance to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus cards can be used to pay for admission. Admission tickets are also available at the LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices and leisure venues with Leisure Link services, except for water sports centres.

     Admission fees for the flower show are as follows:
* Normal rate: $14
* Children, students and senior citizens aged 60 or above: $7
* Persons with disabilities and their minders (each person can enjoy the concessionary rate with one minder only): $7

     Concessionary rates from Monday to Friday:
* Free admission for senior citizens aged 60 or above.
* Free admission for persons with disabilities and their minders (each person can enjoy the concessionary rate with one minder only).
* Adults in a group of 30 persons or above will be admitted at half rate.
