New Director-General of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, assumes office (with photo)

     The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government has appointed a new chief representative in London. On February 12, Ms Erica Ng became the new Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, replacing the retired Director-General, Mrs Agnes Allcock.

     Ms Ng has served in the Hong Kong civil service since 1990 and was most recently Principal Assistant Secretary in the Transport and Housing Bureau, a post she held since 2009. Ms Ng had studied in London in 2008, taking a master's degree in management science at the London Business School.

     As the chief representative of the HKSAR Government in London, Ms Ng plays a key role in promoting bilateral relations between the UK and Hong Kong. Ms Ng also represents Hong Kong in the eight other countries that the London office is responsible for: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Russia and Sweden.

     Ms Ng said, "I am very excited to take up this new role, representing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government here. I look forward to helping to build upon Hong Kong's long-standing economic, business, financial, cultural and educational ties with all countries under our purview."

Biography of Ms Erica Ng

     Ms Erica Ng joined the Hong Kong Government Administrative Service in 1990 after graduating with a degree in commerce from the University of Toronto.

     Ms Ng was Assistant Secretary in the former Trade and Industry Branch in 1992, and was seconded to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to be Senior Manager in 1995. She joined the Central Policy Unit as Senior Administrative Officer in 1997 and was appointed Principal Assistant Secretary in the former Education and Manpower Branch in 1999. Ms Ng then became Principal Assistant Secretary in the former Finance Branch and the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau in 2001. In 2006, she was appointed Assistant Director in the Trade and Industry Department.

     Ms Ng was sponsored by the HKSAR Government to undertake master's degree studies in management science at the London Business School in 2008. After completing the studies, she was appointed Principal Assistant Secretary in the Transport and Housing Bureau in 2009.

     In February 2013, Ms Ng was appointed Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London. The Office is responsible for fostering Hong Kong's relations with Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the UK.
