Third meeting of Long Term Housing Strategy Steering Committee held
*****************************************************

The Long Term Housing Strategy Steering Committee held its third meeting today (February 2).

Subsequent to the breakaway session held on January 10, Members further considered issues relating to measures to maximise the rational use of public rental housing (PRH) and housing needs of specific groups in the community.

Members had in-depth discussions on issues relating to the Quota and Points System, "Well-off Tenants" policies, under-occupation policy in PRH estates, overcrowding relief arrangements, redevelopment of aged PRH estates and measures to tackle abuse of PRH, etc.

Members also discussed the housing needs and priorities of specific groups in the community, including the elderly, non-elderly singletons, poorly-housed households, as well as youngsters and first-time home buyers, and possible measures to meet their needs.

"At today's meeting, Members have offered a lot of views and suggestion which will facilitate the formulation of the long term housing strategy," said the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, who is also Chairman of the Steering Committee.
