The Government announced today (January 25) the appointment of Mr William Leung Wing-cheung as Chairman of the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) for the period from January 15, 2013 to March 31, 2015.

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the appointment.

"Mr Leung has been serving the ERB since 2008 and has extensive experience in serving advisory and statutory bodies," Mr Cheung said. "I am confident that under Mr Leung's capable leadership and with the staunch support of all members, the Board will continue to provide comprehensive and quality training and retraining services for our local workforce to enhance their competitiveness and employability," Mr Cheung added.

Mr Cheung also took the opportunity to pay once again his special tribute to the deceased former Chairman, Dr Ng Tat-lun, for his immense contribution to the Board and exemplary leadership during his tenure of service.

"Dr Ng had served the Board since 2005. Over the years, Dr Ng was fully dedicated to nurturing and enhancing the manpower quality of Hong Kong. He successfully steered the launching of a host of new initiatives designed to enhance its service quality and corporate governance. As the Board chairman, he demonstrated outstanding leadership and provided useful direction for the efficient and effective operation of the Board. We were all deeply saddened by his death." he added.

The ERB is a statutory body established in 1992 under the Employees Retraining Ordinance (Cap. 423). It is responsible for providing retraining courses and related placement services under the Manpower Development Scheme.
