************************************************

The Government today (January 18) announced the re-appointment of Mr Anthony Nightingale, Director of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited, and Mr Richard Li, Chairman of Pacific Century Group Limited, as Hong Kong's representatives to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC) until the end of 2013. The Government also appointed Mr Douglas Woo, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Wheelock Properties (HK) Limited, as Hong Kong's alternate representative to ABAC until the end of 2014.

Hong Kong's other incumbent representative to ABAC is Mr Vincent Lo, Chairman of Shui On Group, whose term will end by the end of 2013.

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, spoke highly of the services rendered by Mr Nightingale and Mr Li.

"The Government is very grateful for Mr Nightingale's and Mr Li's tremendous contributions to ABAC over the years in fostering closer co-operation between APEC and the Asia-Pacific business community.

"Despite their heavy public and business commitments, they participated actively in the work of ABAC. Their wise counsel is invaluable to ABAC's taking forward of the priorities of this important regional business forum," he said.

ABAC was established in 1996 as a permanent business advisory body to provide advice to APEC on business sector priorities for implementing its goal toward free and open trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
