SLW deeply saddened by death of Dr Ng Tat-lun

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, today (January 15) expressed his profound sadness at the passing of Dr Ng Tat-lun, Chairman of the Employees Retraining Board, and extended deep condolences to his family.
 
     "Dr Ng served in various official capacities for more than 20 years. Dr Ng and I worked closely together in the fields of labour, manpower, education and vocational training over the years. He had been the Chairman of the Employees Retraining Board since 2009. Dr Ng was zealous in enhancing the quality of the local workforce and made immense contributions to manpower development and the promotion of occupational safety and health. I feel deeply saddened by the news. All my colleagues join me in extending our deepest condolences to his family," Mr Cheung said.

     Dr Ng also contributed tremendously to the work of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), serving as Chairman and Member on various Boards and Committees. He was Deputy Chairman of the VTC from 1995 to 2005, during which he was fully committed to guiding the repositioning of the VTC as well as the formulation and implementation of its Eight-year Strategic Plan.

     Serving the community continuously over the years, Dr Ng was also the Chairman of the Occupational Safety and Health Council and a member of the Manpower Development Committee. He made significant contributions to Hong Kong in the areas of manpower training and occupational health and safety. He was appointed as a Justice of the Peace in 1992, and was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2002 and the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2011.
