Appointments to Women's Commission announced

     The Government today (January 11) announced the appointment of three new members and the re-appointment of nine incumbent members to the Women's Commission (WoC) with effect from January 15.

     The three new members are Miss Rabi Yim Chor-pik, Mr Philip Tsai Wing-chung and Ms Aruna Gurung.

     Miss Rabi Yim Chor-pik is a director of a design company and a Vice-chairperson of the Direction Association for the Handicapped.

     Mr Philip Tsai Wing-chung is a partner of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee and a non-executive director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority. He is also a past President of the Council of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

     Ms Aruna Gurung is a chief purser of the Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Limited. She is a former member of the Committee on the Promotion of Racial Harmony.

     The nine incumbent members re-appointed are Ms Au Yeung Po-chun, Dr Maggie Koong May-kay, Professor Lam Ching-man, Ms Ada Lam Yuk-chun, Dr Trisha Leahy, Ms Sandy Wong Hang-yee, Ms Catherine Wong Pui-yee, Mr Robert Wong Yao-wing and Ms Constance Yue Mui-ying.

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the appointments and re-appointments. He said, "Coming from a diverse background, the newly appointed and re-appointed members have vast experience in their professions and community services. I look forward to their advice on the work of the WoC which would enable the WoC to continue to make a valuable contribution to the promotion of the interests and well-being of women in Hong Kong."

     He also thanked the two outgoing members, Mrs Ayesha M Lau and Mr Christopher Law Kin-chung, for their sterling contribution and dedication to the work of the WoC.

     The WoC was set up on January 15, 2001, as a central mechanism to promote the well-being and interests of women in Hong Kong. It plays a strategic role in advising the Government on policies and initiatives on women's issues.
