Political Assistant appointed

     The Chief Executive's Office announced today (November 30) that the Appointment Committee has appointed a Political Assistant of the fourth term of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

     The Secretary for Food and Health has recommended Ms Chan Hoi-yan to be his Political Assistant and her appointment is approved by the Appointment Committee.

     Ms Chan will assume office tomorrow (December 1).

     The Government will make further announcements on the Under Secretaries and Political Assistants for the remaining bureaux in due course.

     Following is the biographical note of Ms Chan:

Ms Chan Hoi-yan

     Aged 35, Ms Chan graduated from the Department of Journalism of the School of Communication of the Hong Kong Baptist University and holds a Master of Social Sciences Degree in Media Management from the Baptist University. She was honoured with the Baptist University's Distinguished Alumni Communicator Award in 2008.

     Before joining the Government, Ms Chan was the News Editor of now TV (News and Business Information) and assisted in setting up the now Business News Channel and the News Channel. She was in charge of the day-to-day news editing and reporting, with a special focus on medical news. She was also the Executive Producer of the medical programme "Medicine Online", overseeing the planning, production and broadcasting mode of the programme.

     Prior to joining now TV, Ms Chan was the Senior Reporter and anchor of the News Department of TVB.
