SCS commends 77 civil servants for meritorious service (with photos)

The Secretary for the Civil Service (SCS), Mr Paul Tang, presented awards to 77 civil servants today (November 29) for their meritorious achievements. The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, joined them at a cocktail reception to express his appreciation to the award recipients and share their joy.

Extending his warmest congratulations to the awardees from 34 bureaux and departments at the presentation ceremony, Mr Tang thanked them for their contributions to the SAR Government, their departments and the community.

He said, "A professional and highly efficient civil service is pivotal to effective governance and administration."

Mr Tang extended his heartfelt thanks to colleagues for their effort. The commitment of the civil service colleagues at different levels are evident in all aspects of public services. With the continual progress of the economy and society, the public expectations of the Government keep on rising, he said. Mr Tang is confident that the civil service team will uphold its professionalism in the face of challenges and in delivering quality service.

Mr Tang said that the Civil Service Bureau will continue to maintain and enhance the morale of the civil service, and encourage bureaux and departments to make more use of the various commendation schemes to recognise and motivate exemplary performance by civil servants.

The Administration is committed to upholding high standards of performance and conduct in the civil service. To enhance the performance management and commendation systems, the SCS' Commendation Scheme was introduced in 2004. Through the award, the SCS, on behalf of the Administration, commends selected civil servants on their consistently outstanding performance. This is the ninth presentation ceremony for the scheme since its introduction. Up to now, 673 civil servants have been awarded commendation, including the 77 awardees this year.
