The Government today (November 16) announced appointments to the Advisory Committee on Travel Agents (ACTA).
Ms Gilly Wong Fung-han and Mr Buston Chu have been appointed as new members of ACTA with effect from November 16 and 19 respectively. As the Chief Executive of the Consumer Council, Ms Wong will replace her predecessor Miss Connie Lau Yin-hing, who retired from the Council with effect from November 16. Mr Chu will replace Mr Tommy Li Ying-sang, who has served ACTA for six years.
Eight existing members, Mr Richard Au Yeung Sei-kwok, Miss Tanya Chan, Mr Ken Chang Kin-ming, Professor Cathy Hsu Hui-chun, Mrs Bethy Tam Ho Kum-man, Mr Joseph Tung Yao-chung, Mr Michael Wu Siu-ieng and Mr Freddy Yip Hing-ning have been re-appointed with effect from November 19.
The term of office of the above members lasts till November 18, 2014.
"We are grateful to the two retiring members for their valuable contribution to the work of the ACTA over the past years. We welcome the new members and look forward to working closely with the ACTA to further enhance the service quality of the travel trade," a Government spokesman said.
The ACTA is a statutory body established under section 7 of the Travel Agents Ordinance (TAO). It advises the Government on matters relating to the regulation of the travel agent trade and issues affecting the interests of the travel trade and consumers.
Appointments to the ACTA are made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development under section 7(2) of the TAO, under delegated authority from the Chief Executive.
The composition of the ACTA with effect from November 19, 2012 is as follows:
