The Advisory Committee on Post-office Employment for Former Chief Executives and Politically Appointed Officials has advised two former politically appointed officials, upon their request, on their proposed employment after leaving the Government on July 1.
These officials are the former Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan-lung, SC, and the former Political Assistant to the Secretary for Food and Health, Mr Chan Chi-yuen. Mr Wong proposes to take up barrister's practice. Mr Chan proposes to set up a public relations consultancy company and a travel service company and become the director of both companies.
The Advisory Committee considers that, subject to observance of certain advice it has given, the proposed employment of Mr Wong and Mr Chan would not cause any potential conflict of interest. The Advisory Committee also did not anticipate adverse public reaction or public perception problems arising from the proposed employment.
In considering each case, the Advisory Committee had regard to the information provided by the former politically appointed official concerned, the assessments by relevant government bureaux or offices, and the criteria for advice as stipulated in the guidance note on post-office employment for politically appointed officials.
