Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, today (September 23) on the North East New Territories New Development Areas project after attending a TV programme:
Reporter: What is your reaction towards yesterday...What is your stance for the New Territories North East New Development?
Secretary for Development: Well I think yesterday's consultation session was a very good session. It was an opportunity for various stakeholders to air their views. And for me, as the responsible official to go there to listen to not just their views but to have a personal feeling of the feeling expressed at the consultation session.
Reporter: What about those people who voice their...?
Secretary for Development: There were people opposing to the proposed development. There were also people supporting the development. I think the most important thing is what their reasons are and the logic behind. The Government has been listening carefully to various views expressed. After the consultation all these views will be collated and we will consider all views carefully so as to revise our plan to respond to the needs of the people.
