Luxembourg-based law firm Elvinger, Hoss & Prussen celebrated the official opening of its first overseas office in Hong Kong today (September 20), following its clients in their expansion into Asia and Mainland China markets.

The Hong Kong office was soft-launched in July and is now up and running with experienced lawyers up to partner level and supported by dedicated teams in Luxembourg that are readily available and familiar with the Asian environment. The office advises exclusively on Luxembourg law in various areas of practice, including investment funds and asset management, private equity and real estate acquisition finance, corporate finance and capital markets, tax law and more.

Resident Partner of Elvinger, Hoss & Prussen, Ms Panichi Katia, said, "We have been steadily growing over the last 50 years, reflecting the development of Luxembourg as a leading international financial centre and a hub for financial and corporate institutions to access not only from the European Union but also countries worldwide including China and other Asian countries. The opening of our office in Hong Kong is a natural move within these developments.

"Hong Kong as an international financial centre provides a huge opportunity in financial services. Its strategic location at the heart of Asia makes it a preferred place for us to get closer to our Asian clients, to cover more efficiently the major financial centres in the Asia-Pacific region, including China, and to offer swift assistance amid the challenges of an ever changing legal and regulatory environment," she added.

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Andrew Davis, welcomed Elvinger, Hoss & Prussen setting up its first overseas office in Hong Kong and said, "Hong Kong has a strong financial services regulatory regime, great talent with international perspective and experience of Mainland business practices. It offers a very favourable environment for legal services providers."
