Come and join the Wan Chai District Grand Sea, Land and Sky Parade in Celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the HKSAR

The following is issued on behalf of the Wan Chai District Council:

     A grand sea, land and sky parade will be held this Sunday (July 8) from 2pm to 6pm in Golden Bauhinia Square and off Wan Chai in Victoria Harbour. Some 1,000 people will participate in the parade and performance to demonstrate the vitality of Wan Chai and celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR.

     The Wan Chai District Grand Sea, Land and Sky Parade in Celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the HKSAR is jointly organised by the Wan Chai District Council and Wan Chai District Office. The Secretary of Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing and the Deputy Director General of the Hong Kong Island Sub-office of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Mr Liu Lin, will officiate at the opening ceremony at 3.50pm in Golden Bauhinia Square. Members of the public are welcome to come and share the joyful atmosphere of the half-hour grand parade, which will start around 4.10pm.

     More than 20 vessels, including a fire boat, two "Harbour Cruise - Bauhinia" boats, a Star Ferry, an Adventure Ship and yachts from the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club will take part in the sea parade off the Square. A helicopter from the Government Flying Service displaying the regional flag will make a fly-past over the Square along with four other helicopters from the Hong Kong Aviation Club and Heliservices (HK) Limited. At the same time, about 400 district personalities and members of the ethnic minorities in special dress will join the land parade with uniformed groups in the Square and the nearby waterfront area.

     In addition, more than 10 district groups and ethnic minority groups will stage a variety show at 2pm, while TV artistes will perform after the parade.

     In addition, about 30 vintage cars and motorbikes arranged by the Hong Kong Automobile Association will join the parade with two open-top "Big Bus" from 3pm. Car enthusiasts should not miss the chance to take a closer look at the vintage cars on display.

     Members of the public can also have fun at games booths specially designed with the theme of celebrating the HKSAR's 15th anniversary from 2pm to 5.30pm on Sunday. Game coupons will be distributed on the spot on a first-come, first-served basis.

     A free shuttle bus service will be provided between MTR Wan Chai Station (B1 Exit) and the Golden Bauhinia Square from 2pm.
