Registration and Electoral Office follows up media report on electors' suspected false registered addresses
************************************************************

The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) is following up a news report yesterday (July 5) on electors' suspected false registered addresses, an REO spokesman said today (July 6).

"The report alleged that some units in the buildings of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) are not places of residence of electors. According to the preliminary information obtained from the estates office of HKU, its staff members live in those units (16/F, K K Leung Building and room 9, B1, James Hsioung Lee Science Building). According to the 2012 provisional registers of electors, there is no record of the office at G04, Run Run Shaw Building, HKU, as mentioned in the report, as a registered address. Preliminary information reveals that the person mentioned in the report resides in his registered address. The REO has also contacted some of the electors whose registered addresses are situated in other units at HKU mentioned in the report. They have verbally confirmed that their registered addresses are their current principal residence.

"We will follow up on the cases mentioned in the news report concerning addresses at the University of Hong Kong and Kwan Yick Building in Sai Wan to ascertain the accuracy of the registered addresses of the electors concerned. If it is found that an elector is not residing in his registered address, the REO will in the process of preparing the 2012 final register remove his name and address from the register according to the relevant electoral laws. Cases of electors' suspected false registered addresses will also be referred to the law enforcement agencies for follow up actions and investigation," the spokesman said.
