The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (July 5) attended a luncheon hosted by the wholesale and retail sector and introduced to over 100 participants his policy vision. He also took the opportunity to listen to their views and expectations on the new term Government.

At the luncheon, Mr Leung reiterated that he attached great importance to the development of the wholesale and retail sector.

"This sector does not only address peoples' livelihood, it also plays a crucial role in promoting tourism industry.  I will closely monitor the impact of the economic situation on the sector and in case of economic downturn, I will timely request the Central Government to expand the Individual Visit Scheme by allowing residents of more Mainland cities to visit Hong Kong in their individual capacity," Mr Leung said.

In response to the industry's request, Mr Leung would increase the supply of land appropriately with a view to relieving the operating pressure caused by rent increase.
