President Hu arrives in Hong Kong for three-day visit (with photos/videos)

     President Hu Jintao arrived in Hong Kong at noon today (June 29) for a three-day visit.

     Accompanying President Hu were Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councillor Madam Liu Yandong; Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee Mr Ling Jihua; Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee Mr Wang Huning; Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the NPC Standing Committee Mr Li Jianguo; Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Mr Liao Hui; Member of the Central Military Commission and Director of the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Li Jinai; the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Wang Guangya; and the Director of the President's Office, Mr Chen Shiju.

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, boarded the plane to greet President Hu. Other members of the welcoming party at the airport apron included the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Mr Peng Qinghua; the Chief Executive-elect, Mr C Y Leung, and his wife; the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Geoffrey Ma Tao-li; the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Stephen Lam; the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang; the Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC; the President of the Legislative Council, Mr Jasper Tsang; the Convenor of the Non-official Members of the Executive Council, Mr Ronald Arculli; the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR, Mr Song Zhe; the Commander of the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Lieutenant General Zhang Shibo; and Political Commissar Lieutenant General Wang Zengbo.

     After disembarking from the plane, President Hu shook hands with the welcoming party at the airport apron and spoke to reporters briefly.

     President Hu said he is glad to be making another visit to Hong Kong, after his previous visit five years ago, to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Hong Kong's reunification with the motherland and to witness the Inaugural Ceremony of the Fourth Term Government of the HKSAR.

     Hong Kong has sustained remarkable achievements since the reunification. "One Country, Two Systems" has been well-established. The Central Government will continue to support various sectors in Hong Kong in united efforts to roll forward "One Country, Two Systems".

     President Hu said that in the next two days he would visit various places to better understand developments in Hong Kong and the livelihoods and aspirations of the Hong Kong people. President Hu also sent his best regards to the Hong Kong people.

     President Hu was then driven to the hotel where he will stay. A meeting is scheduled for President Hu with the Chief Executive.

     The three-day visit of President Hu runs from June 29 to July 1, during which President Hu will attend activities in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR and the Inaugural Ceremony of the Fourth Term Government of the HKSAR.
