The Education Bureau (EDB) issued a Circular Memorandum today (June 27) to update schools on the latest developments, major recommendations and key information regarding the implementation of the New Academic Structure (NAS) and preparation for the release of results for the first Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination.

The circular aims to help schools better prepare for the HKDSE Examination result release day and review their implementation of the New Senior Secondary (NSS) curriculum and assessment. Information on study pathways for the last cohort of Secondary 7 students and the result release of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination are also provided.

The year 2012 marks an important milestone in the history of Hong Kong education. The results of the first HKDSE Examination will be released on July 20. Under the NAS, all students have the opportunity to develop their potential and aspirations via multiple pathways.

A spokesman for the EDB said that the Circular Memorandum (CM No. 90/2012) issued today is the fifth issue in a series and serves as a comprehensive document containing all the important milestones reached.

The spokesman said, "The circular highlights the latest developments, which include the preparation for the HKDSE Examination result release day; guidelines on the implementation of the NSS curriculum; findings of the NSS Subject Information Survey; evaluation of the implementation of the NSS curriculum and assessment; arrangements for the streamlining of School-based Assessment, multiple pathways for NSS students and international recognition of the HKDSE; and continuous support for teachers through professional development programmes."

He added, "We will continue to maintain close communication and collaboration with schools and other stakeholders to help students meet their aspirations for work or further studies in accordance with their abilities, aptitude and interests."
