Progress of Under Secretaries selection process
***********************************************

Chaired by the Chief Executive-elect (CE-elect), Mr C Y Leung, the selection committee for the posts of Under Secretaries and Political Assistants conducted the fourth session of meetings with Under Secretary candidates today (June 17). The last session of meetings will be held in a couple of days.

Out of about 300 applicants for the post of Under Secretary, the committee has shortlisted 39 applicants for individual meetings. Except for the Civil Service Bureau, where there is no Under Secretary post, the committee will recommend at least two Under Secretary candidates for selection by each of the Directors of the remaining 13 bureaux.

"This open selection process of the committee has allowed talents from different political parties and background to come forward for the post of Under Secretary. The progress and outcome of the meetings have been good. Applicants who attended the meetings are of vision, committed and capable of political work," Mr Leung said.

After the committee has completed its final meeting session, it is expected that at least two Under Secretary candidates will be recommended to most of the Directors of Bureaux. Failing that, the committee does not rule out the possibility that application will be opened again for two to three days to allow more talents who aspired to join the new political team or those who have missed the deadline this time to submit their applications to the CE-elect's Office.

Details will be announced in due course.
