Parenting classes bolster family ties

On Father's Day, Charles Leung can look forward to a carefree and relaxing time with his four-year-old daughter Meris. Their relationship was not always so close, though. When he discovered she was not keen to spend time with him and preferred the company of her mother, the Leungs signed up for the Department of Health's Positive Parenting Programme.

They took home some enduring life lessons which have helped build closer bonds, and enable father and daughter to get along well.

The department's Clinical Psychologist Francis Au tells news.gov.hk the programme helps parents figure out the best ways to raise their children, and change their bad behaviour. More than 8,800 families have benefited since the programme began in 2002.
