The Chief Executive-elect's Office (CEEO) issued the following statement to clarify a report in Apple Daily today (May 22):
"The report in Apple Daily today which alleged that someone from the Leung camp was about to recommend the Chairman of Hang Lung Properties, Mr Ronnie Chan, to be the Chairman of the Council of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is totally groundless. It is regretful that the newspaper did not check with the CEEO or the Education Bureau beforehand and published three inaccurate reports on appointments in the past week, unsettling the people concerned.
"The term of the Chairman of the HKU Council, Dr Leong Che-hung, will end in November this year. No one has ever raised the matters in relation to the Chairman's term of office or appointment to the Chief Executive-elect. The Chief Executive-elect has yet to work on the appointment."
