The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a light refreshment restaurant in Yuen Long to suspend business for 14 days.

The operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the food business area.

The restaurant, located at Shops C and D1 on the ground floor of Mariana Building at 96-104 Kin Yip Street and 53-59 Yau San Street, was ordered to suspend business from today (April 17) to April 30.

"In January, two convictions on the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said.

"A total fine of $8,000 was levied by the court and 30 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension," he added.

The licensee of the food premises also had a record of two convictions for the same offence in August last year. A fine of $6,000 was levied and 30 demerit points were registered. The breaches led to business suspension for seven days last November.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation, or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.
