The time capsule buried by the former Urban Council (ex-UC) in June 1997 at the Memorial Garden of the Hong Kong City Hall to mark the reunification of Hong Kong with China was unearthed at a ceremony today (March 28).

The "Unearthing Ceremony of Former Urban Council's Time Capsule" was held by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to tie in with the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong City Hall this year.

Today's ceremony was officiated by the ex-UC Chairman, Dr Ronald Leung, and attended by about 30 ex-UC Councillors or their representatives. Also attending were the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mrs Betty Fung, and the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Clement Leung.

The time capsule contained personal items contributed by ex-UC Councillors. It also held items such as the ex-UC Annual Report, Five-Year Plans, drawings and plans related to the Council's development and major projects. Please see the Annex for a full list of the items.

With the consent of individual ex-UC Councillors or their representatives, the unearthed items will be put on display for public viewing at the foyer of the Hong Kong City Hall from April 1 to 9.
