CE-elect thanks CPG for appointment

     Premier Wen Jiabao presided at the State Council meeting today (March 28) and endorsed Leung Chun-ying (C Y Leung) as the new Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

     The Chief Executive-elect, Mr C Y Leung, issued the following statement today:

     "I am very grateful to the Central People's Government (CPG) for appointing me as the fourth term Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

     It is a huge mission and honour for me to lead the SAR Government in serving the community and the people of Hong Kong, as well as to promote our social and economic development.

     I will continue to unite different sectors and strata of the community with humility, do my utmost, and face up to the challenges ahead. I will uphold the principles of 'One country, Two systems', 'Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong', and a high degree of autonomy. I will also safeguard the rule of law, advance democracy and foster social harmony, and build a more prosperous, just and progressive Hong Kong. I will live up to the expectations of the CPG and the people of Hong Kong."
