CE to attend NPC session opening ceremony

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, will visit Beijing from March 4 to 6. At the invitation of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Mr Tsang will attend the opening ceremony for the fifth session of the 11th National People's Congress on March 5.

     While in Beijing, he will also attend a seminar hosted by the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in Beijing to meet with Hong Kong students from Peking University and Tsinghua University, and students from the Mainland who have studied in Hong Kong on short-term exchanges.

     Mr Tsang will also visit facilities of the Hong Kong MTR in Beijing to learn about the company's operations in the Mainland.

     Also, the Chief Executive will meet Guangdong Province leaders and the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr Chui Sai-on.

     Accompanying Mr Tsang on the visit will be the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Professor Gabriel Leung; the Director of Information Services, Mr Michael Wong; the Private Secretary to the Chief Executive, Ms Bernadette Linn; the Senior Special Assistant, Mr Chan Kin-ping; and the Assistant Director (Media), Ms Betty Ho.

     Mr Tsang will depart for Hong Kong in the evening of March 6. During his absence from Hong Kong, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Stephen Lam, will be Acting Chief Executive.
