Speech by CS at Opening Ceremony of Hong Kong and Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (with photos/video)
***********************************************************

Following is the speech (English portion) by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Stephen Lam, at the Opening Ceremony of 2011-12 Hong Kong and Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture at Kowloon Park Piazza today (February 16):

Dr (Peter Cookson) Smith,

I'm very pleased that your institute has participated in this biennial event. I see that we have members from the consular corps and other professionals to come and support us today.

The beauty about Hong Kong is that this is a truly international city, and we can see this from all the designs around us. Many of you have participated in past decades to build Hong Kong to what it is today.

And, for members of the consular corps, we rely on you to communicate with your capitals and your professional bodies back home, your commercial enterprises, to let them know that Hong Kong represents a land of opportunities.

This is where we can be a great melting pot of different concepts, designs and new developments, which will create a customer-friendly, people-friendly living environment in Hong Kong. Despite the high density which we face, we succeed in retaining and developing creativity, day in and day out.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the speech.)
