SLW on elderly services
***********************

Following is a transcript of remarks (English portion) by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, at a media session after attending a radio programme today (February 5):

Reporter: Mr Cheung, there are lots of plans on services for the elderly.  How can the public be assured that they will go through the next term of the government?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: We have confidence that there will be continuity in the future because a lot of these are recurrent in nature.  We have got additional recurrent provision this year, for example, government's recurrent commitment for elderly services is $5 billion, compared with $4.2 billion in the current year.  All these mean we are dedicated to providing the services in the long term.
