Exhibition showcases secondary school students' creative visual arts work (with photos)

Members of the public are invited to visit the "Exhibition of Secondary School Students' Creative Visual Arts Work (2011/12)", which is being held today (January 20) until February 13 at the Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre.

Organised by the Arts Education Section of the Curriculum Development Institute of the Education Bureau, the exhibition aims to provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their creativity and artistic ability in visual arts, and promote communication among students, teachers and the public.

On display are about 400 artworks that have been selected from 1,330 entries from 143 secondary schools. The exhibits cover different topics and a wide range of media such as drawing, painting, printmaking, media art, photography, sculpture, ceramics and design. An artist's statement is attached to each exhibit, providing viewers with more information for appreciating and interpreting the artwork.

To encourage more students of various ages to submit their entries, participants were categorised into two age groups in the selection of awards - 12 to 14 years old and 15 years old or above. In each age group, grand prizes and honourable mentions have been selected from four media, which are two-dimensional work, three-dimensional work, Chinese painting and calligraphy, and media art.

Adjudicators for selecting the winning entries included Visiting Professor, Macau Millennium College, Mr Aser But; visual artist, Mr Eddie Lui; and the Associate Head of the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, Hong Kong Institute of Education, and representative of the Arts Education Section, Dr Peter Mak. The selection criteria adopted were creativity, aesthetics, manipulation of techniques and media, and communication.
